Progressive Caribbean Draw Poker At Online Casinos

June 20, 2013

Caribbean Draw Poker is not a very common game at online casinos. One of the attractions of this table game is the progressive jackpot offered. It is offered by the leading software providers Microgaming and Realtime Gaming. The game play is similar in both cases, only a different payout table is used for the progressive jackpot side bet. There is another game called Caribbean Stud Poker, which is more common at online casinos. These two games are different and should not be confused with each other.

Online Caribbean Draw Poker is played with a single standard deck of 52 cards. The game play begins with the ante bet after which the player is dealt five cards face up. The dealer is also dealt five cards, but only the first card is face up, while the remaining four cards are dealt face down. Based on the cards that he can see the player has to make his move. The first option is to fold, which should be exercised if the player feels that he has little chance of winning. If the player folds then he will lose the ante bet. The second option is to stand, which should be exercised if the player feels that he has a good hand. If the player stands then a play bet equal to twice the ante bet is automatically placed on the table. In the third option the player can select up to two cards for replacement. This is the option that is exercised most of the time and requires knowledge of optimum online Caribbean Draw Poker strategy. In this option the selected cards are replaced and the play bet is placed. The remaining cards of the dealer are turned over and up to two cards from the dealer’s hand are automatically replaced if required.

Though the process of making the payouts is automatically done, it is advisable that players understand what is happening. In online Caribbean Draw Poker it is first checked whether the dealer has a qualifying hand, which is a pair of Eights or Better. If the dealer does not qualify then the ante bet pays even money and the play bet pushes. If the dealer qualifies then the two hands are compared as per the normal poker hand rankings. If the player’s hand is lower ranked then he loses both his bets. If both the hands are of equal rank then the two bets push. If the player’s hand is higher ranked then the ante bet pays even money and the play bet pays as per a payout table. This table begins with even money for Eights or Better and goes to 100 to 1 for Royal Flush.

A $1 side bet can be placed at the start of the online Caribbean Draw Poker game. This bet pays out on the hand dealt before draw and does not depend on the result of the main game. The payout is based on another table, which is different for the Microgaming and the Realtime Gaming variants. The Microgaming payout table starts with a 4 to 1 payout for Two Pairs and goes to a 2,500 to 1 payout for Straight Flush and the progressive jackpot for Royal Flush. The Realtime Gaming payout table starts with a 75 to 1 payout for Flush and goes to 10% of the progressive jackpot for Straight Flush and the full progressive jackpot for Royal Flush.
